Misogi

{noun} /mɪˈsoʊɡi/

A goal so big it defines your entire year

Misogi, meaning 'water cleansing', is an ancient Japanese practice involving purifying the mind, body, and spirit through physical and mental challenges. In samurai tradition, it helps warriors build mental clarity and gain a deeper understanding of themselves by pushing their limits

At its core, “misogi” is about transformation. It's about shedding old habits and beliefs, and embracing a new, more powerful version of yourself. More specifically, the “Misogi Challenge” is about doing something so tough, once a year, that it shapes how you live the rest of your 364 days

It has to be something that scares you, something you may not be able to complete

I’ve participated in several trips across Latin America, including Guatemala, Mexico City, Lima, and Medellín, but this one in Patagonia was by far the best.

The trip was split into three days of incredible activities. On the first day, we hiked around 12 miles up to one of the most famous lakes in the region. If you Google "Patagonia," you'll see breathtaking images. The hike itself was tough but rewarding, and at the top, you're greeted by a beautiful lake, with the iconic three towering pillars right behind it. We spent a few hours up there, just taking it all in. It’s one of the most jaw-dropping landscapes I've ever seen.

The second day, which I didn't expect to enjoy as much, was all about horseback riding. I’ve always been a bit nervous around horses because I fell off one as a kid, and I’ve only ridden moody horses since. But this experience was different! We went to a local ranch, and the ride through Patagonia's stunning scenery was amazing. Afterward, we had the most incredible Asado, or barbecue, prepared by our hosts. Everything we tried there was absolutely top-notch. Even though it was a little rainy and cloudy, it didn’t stop us from having a great time.

The final day was a glacier cruise. Everyone hopped on a boat, and we sailed through this epic fjord toward a massive glacier. After a while, we disembarked and had the chance to walk up close to the glacier. The sheer size and beauty of it were overwhelming.

I highly recommend this trip to anyone. The logistics were handled incredibly well, and the entire experience was smooth and pleasant, aside from the obvious challenge of the hike, which only added to the adventure. It was truly an unforgettable experience!
